6 But David’s conscience began to bother him because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 7 He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do such a thing to my lord, lifting my hand against the Lord’s anointed, for he is the Lord’s anointed.” 8 [a]With these words David rebuked his servants, and he would not let them rise up against Saul.

  1. 1 Samuel 24:8 David shows an incredible degree of humility and restraint to the person who has done nothing to win his affection or respect. By continuing to honor God’s anointed king despite his evil ways, he is ultimately submitting himself to God’s authority.
